Was really wanting to give this a fair shout, and there are a few decent tracks here, but it’s a slog and a half. Pacing is dire, feels like there are more interludes than actual songs. And does anyone else get the impression this is Chris Martin attempting his own spin on the Bon Iver formula?

Get rid of the waffle and the tacky theming and this could be upper half of my year’s ratings

This is an absolute mess of an album. And it's no more interesting or "experimental" than Viva La Vida in its attempt to bring together world-ranging influences, except that album grafted those influences onto genuinely good strongwriting and built a fairly cohesive song cycle out of them.

^Agreed. No way is this better than Ghost Stories or Mylo Xyloto

Mylo Xyloto is hot trash but Ghost Stories is arguably better although that album has its own severe failings

I mean there are actually some good moments here, but as part of this mess of an overall package I don't see myself bothering to form relationships with them.

And yeah anat I definitely feel the influence of Bon Iver here, Chris and co are definitely fans of 22, a Million and i,i

I hardly ever listen to this band but I found this to be quite decent, but then again I dont have much to compare it to. Guns gives me a strong Sorrows Army - Graham Coxon vibe. Im I the only one?

And BrokEn is...not. Seriously what is the point of the uppercase E? So arbitrary.

I think Trouble in Town is best here. Guns, t/t and Orphans are ok also...but not to the point where I’d say I like them. As of now:

A Rush of Blood

Viva La Vida

X&Y (never understood the backlash, always considered this Coldplay in their prime)

Parachutes

Mylo Xyloto

Ghost Stories

Everyday Life

A Head Full
