This definitely does some things quite well, just not completely sold on the general sound/aesthetic.

This album is so good it convinced me to create an account here just so that I could add one more voice to sing its praises.

@DDD Mind explaining what part of the sound bothered you on the album?
|

I think this is great, but yeah not to have the same ol' opinion here, but it IS strikingly similar to Opeth in a few places.
Will give another spin just to make sure I'm being fair.

My Disney Townsend analogy was expressed around pg. 3 and it was kinda well received...I think this is actually pretty good...just not much my cup of tea...still prefer this to Empath. Those bwp sections are top notch, it is the breaks towards Narnia adventures that drive me a bit off. Actually there s an album from similar artist Xanthochroid I really love and it has that adventorous tone.

I know you didn’t ask me but...
Yeah this flies off into fantasy fairytale territory a little too often for my liking, would prefer a greater focus on riffs and slightly more crunch in the production (although given the overall sound it’s suitable enough for the style). A little airy, a few too many keys, not sure on the gang vox etc. I do like some of the ideas here and (as I alluded to before) it is well executed for the most part.

I was going to say this album is gotta be far too major scale for some dem grim metalheads, apparently I was right, eh.

anyone who digs the folk elements on here as much as i do owes it to themselves to check out Olof Arnalds' Innundir Skinni. probably zero real world connection between the two albums but she channels the same sort of whimsy and theatrics in a much more minimalist sense and it is superbly beautiful stuff. very similar melodic ideas.

You guys weren't kidding about the Disney Townsend. Not really feeling this one, but I'll keep it for another listen next year

DDDs comment is haunting this thread now, forever to be lambasted with the Disney tag it seems, lol.
