Kodama set the bar too high for me to appreciate this when it came out, but they recently opened with the first two songs from this at Hellfest last month, and hearing these songs live gave me an entirely new appreciation for them.

If you dig Alcest at least give this a quick check, it's too good to miss:

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with this album per se, but it's the only Alcest release that feels kind of redundant and lacks that most of that magic that all their other stuff has to some extent (even Shelter I find much more memorable than this and obviously is more unique in their discog). Definitely hoping that their new album (seemingly coming within the next year based on Neige's progress updates) shakes things up a bit more.

That's exactly how Voyages feels to me. This on the other hand, easily my second favorite after Kodama.

I like me some redundant Alcest.

Definitely more engaging than Voyages, agreed on that. Tbis is Kodama's fat little sister, and it's great. But I get feeling let down a bit, because Kodama set the bar so high

That’s because the album before this is brilliant. Expectations.

Yea. This isn't great as a followup for Kodoma, but it is excellent in its own right. I hope they shake things up a little with the next release though

I totally agree with Boney, this is easily their weakest and has the least amount of that Alcest magic. I had a feeling when I heard they signed to Nuclear Blast, but hopefully they improve on the next release.

Totally agree with teamster. It's a very cozy feeling.

I saw they recorded the drums for the new one in the same location as the drums on Kodama, and Kodama has the best drums

Kodama is the quintessential B+ album

This is the kind that no-one cares enough about to put anywhere above or below C tier
