"Opeth are trying to be a shitty Porcupine Tree reunion though, at least Leprous are trying to be unique."

Shitty Porcupine Tree is redundant.

I really don’t understand the “Einar solo album” criticism, this dude IS pretty much the main songwriter of this band

Yeah, it's weird how people think this JUST happened with this record

The music was more interesting when other band members contributed, case in point TPS and Bilateral

I think Oystein leaving had a bit of an impact. His contributions were always great

Even if their music is less instrumentally inclusive all around, Baard is still one of the best drummers in the game right now, it’s refreshing to see him adapt and play to another style.

--Opeth are trying to be a shitty Porcupine Tree reunion though, at least Leprous are trying to be unique.--

Opeth had more in common with Porcupine Tree during their death metal phase than their prog metal phase. Now they seem to be content with ripping off 70s prog.

--Einar: I kinda forgot our guitarist exists--

This... ha ha.

This has already been said somewhere else, but I don't think anyone is pretending that Einar just suddenly became the main songwriter. What they're saying is that he just suddenly forgot to include the rest of the band in his writing. This album definitely does not include the band in nearly the same capacity as previous albums. It's Einar's vocals, his programming, and his keyboards that make up the majority of each song. His band members are definitely secondary on this album... and I'm not even complaining. I gave this a 4, but it's still a fact.

For me this is their weakest effort so far, too little is going on, this should have been an Einar solo album.

The only thing I’m disappointed in with this album is the closer, it’s uses the 11 minute run time very minimally, guess it has to grow on me.

That song starts so well, but the middle/end drags for no reason.

@Omair, Bilateral is always gonna be their best.

And I'm gonna give this a listen later tonight. Hoping it's at least a 4 for me.

Another easy AOTY contender for me. If they are planning on taking this direction then I'm all in for it, there are too many generic progressive metal/rock bands out there.

I correct my initial statement: This is my AOTY so far, just finished it for the fifth time and I can't stop thinking about it. What an exquisite record.
