There were a few albums I was thinking of using for the "y" in my theoretical equation, but went with "Sunbather" because [1] it's the most well know/ubiquitous of the bunch
It's a good comparison, and I agree with the wider spread of understanding it gives to the reader in regards to that sound comparison. I might not have been clear; I wasn't disputing the relevance, just the fact it's the singular go-to reference for any music that bears even the slightest resemblance.
Either way, you should definitely consider more music reviews [123], you're better suited to it than you give yourself credit.

Ash - hope you dig it!
Nocte, thanks again for the flattery. I’ll browse through some of my favorites and see if any of them is in need of a refurbished review (or is missing one entirely).

Been listening to this since release. It's understandable to think that I'm jumping the gun a bit by giving this a full 5. But I don't think so. This album is absolutely stunning. This album reminds me why I like black metal in the first place. I would change nothing on this album, it's perfect. And to think I'd never even heard of this band before I saw them on the new metal post on reddit and only listened because I liked the album art.

Why do people who neg reviews never explain *why* they neg'd it?

The more I jam this the better it gets. Only problem is that it can be quite homogeneous at times.

'The more I jam this the better it gets. Only problem is that it can be quite homogeneous at times.'
Can't necessarily disagree there, but similar to e.g. Mlga's new album, when I find a metal sound I really love, I'm a bit more lenient on the similitude (which, for me, is preferable to an album that's needlessly bungled with too many Big Ideas).

I feel like the album has a decent amount of variety, but this kind of music tends to have a consistently similar approach so I'm not upset if it kind of ends up feeling a bit similar through the album.

Thanks Dewi - glad you finally gave it a listen. Was hoping for something a little higher but I'll settle for a super solid 3.5

alright it finally happened! I like it. Definitely makes use of the usual bm tropes, but it is has its moments of distinctiveness as well. I like the vocals and they fit really well here.
Nice write up too

Hell yes, glad some peeps are finally giving this a shot. Average would be solid without that edgy 1.0
