"I can’t decide if this is better or worse than Freedom. Freedom was at least different for them, if not misguided, whereas this one just sounds like a truly pathetic attempt to retread some past sounds and bring back fans they lost while completely missing the mark on what people enjoyed about their pre-reunion material."
Like you said beside a few songs and ideas, Freedom felt way more misguided and like the only route the band felt they could take instead of trying their hands on a follow up rock album after shape. This feels like shape and songs combined in a much more rock oriented and mature version imo and I dont think it is pathetic sounding at all. I guess it is neither better or worse than Freedom, depending on if you feel the songwriting was way better on Freedom or not. I think it is a bit stronger on War Music but it is all just my opinion.

I think it would be way more pathetic if they tried making shape part 2 20 years later.

"ive heard literally nothing off freedom bc why would i do that to myself but i did hear the opener off this out of curiosity and it fucking sucked so if this is actually a step up than dam"
I had the same feeling you had here when I heard the new blink album which you and others seem to like a lot more than me, so I guess it is all just the old matter of perspective and preference thing.

To me the songs that worked on freedom are Elektra, Old Friends, Thought is blood and to some extent 366, the rest was filler to me. Here all the songs work for me and even though the prodcution isnt as great as on freedom, the overall album is better imo.

"Oh come the fuck on what is Death In Vannas? They're literally trying to reshape Shape of Punk's riff into a whole new song lmfaoooo."
A song like 366 did that just as much as that song.

It sounds like this was a step in the right direction, even though still full of issues. I don't think they're as left wing as they claim to be anymore though with their products like hipster coffee and doing songs for video games.

Idk what you're talking about since the only song I bothered with from Freedom was Elektra, which is a better song than a majority of the ones on here.

I just pointed out that the main riff in Death In Vännäs and main riff in 366 both equally sound like a shape of punk to come riff, specifically the title track of that record. And no other song on freedom really sounds like Elektra, which like 366 sounds the most like a shape song as well.
