Naturally, everyone will be comparing this to Departure Songs. Not very fair, but to be expected. This is an enjoyable record on its own.

Departure songs is better than this but that isn't saying much.

Musically not as memorable as Departure Songs for me, but what really sets these 2 albums apart is the strength of the concept art from DS - visually and sonically overwhelming in the best way possible.

My impression from reading this review was that you enjoyed it more than the rating reflected.

To be fair, I think I do the same thing, where I try to to be as objective as possible in my ratings, but trend towards friendlier and more forgiving reviewing

Just finished it. I really like it. Song writing is fantastic. Very slick transitions from soft to heavy moments. May need one more spin to verify the production. Drums sound bland.

Listened to this again, and was far more impressed the second time. Seriously, Beautiful Collapse is incredible. Great record.

Departure Songs is a classic album you sputnikers and your ratings are scaring me. Hope I see something none of you do.

Yeah this didn’t blow me away or anything but I’m so surprised this got like no coverage. Especially after releasing one of the most coveted post rock albums in quite some time.
