Clicking back to the previous page to read the context for that was disappointing and upsetting :[

"I have more 5's than Sowing now.
I feel like this breaks the universe somehow." [2]

Most everyone probably does, Sowing only has five 5s now. At least consider bumping up Kid A, F#A#, and High Violet back to 5/5. The Mantle is also higher than 3.5 you know it in your heart to be true.

I'm probably not done rebalancing. With all the music I've heard I'm sure I have more than 5 classics. Those were just my immediate "no hesitation" classics.

Been thinking of a ratings wipe too but I hate doing it because then sometimes I go years forgetting about albums I love because I have so many ratings

The Mantle at 3.5 is a hot take I'm surprisingly on board with

Sowing your new rating balance seems to be a bit... Idk, disingenuous? I mean, so many 5s for mewithoutYou and now only 2 of them are a 4.5. Seems odd that so many dropped from 5 (with years worth of gushing about them) to 4s. Not sure if you're trying to keep a high objectivity score? But I mean that's kind of a pointless thing to do on Sputnik

Aren’t you the guy that wildly changes his opinions/ratings every five minutes? So your post seems to be a bit... Idk, disingenuous?

I'm the guy who says ratings are largely arbitrary and yeah I flip flop between ratings, usually in a very blatantly jokey way, sometimes seriously. Pretty rare that I talk about how great something is for years and then give it a much lower rating tho

my friends all think i'm virtue signaling when I say this but I can't really get into the macabre (ok that's a bad word to use cuz his son died but he was always macabre) baritone men people like tom waits and this guy. maybe even scott walker. ik they're very different. guess I should try a bit harder probably

As I said, not entirely done rebalancing and have been considering Untitled at a 5. The thing is, I've felt disingenuous with my gushing and parades of 5's for years but just didn't know how to approach rectifying it. It became, "well I 5'd this, and I hardly listen to it anymore - so since I love this new album, it also has to be a 5." Just got tired of it. This is actually the most genuine I've felt about my ratings in a long time. It's also important to remember that when I lower my score I'm not saying "I suddenly like this album less", I'm redefining what that score means to me. I don't magically enjoy mewithoutyou less, but a level of enjoyment that I used to define as a classic now feels more fitting at the tier below.

robertsona: you should just try his better material. His output has been shit imo since the passing of his son, but go a few albums back and there's some really solid stuff on Push the Sky Away

Sowing: didn't mean to put you on blast, was just curious, some of your ratings seem like drastic changes for you (like, didn't you have the mantle 5d for a while or am I misremembering this?) But good stuff dude, always a plus to be honest with yourself

No I didn't feel on blast, just trying to respond in a way that makes sense. Because to others I'm sure it looks like I'm suddenly changing my mind about my entire musical taste, which isn't the case.
