"...What I suspect is that this new version is a stem-remix/remaster. Meaning they didn't mix it from all the original tracks, but from stems (sub groups such as guitars, vocals, drums, etc) which were made by the original engineer Warren Riker. And my hunch is that Warren forgot to put my vocals in any stems. It was crunch time when we were mixing and the growls were added at the very last moment. So I suspect it's just a technical reason, nothing more."

Thanks for the links and posting his comments about the album.
--It's interesting to me that everybody likes the removal of the death growls, yet so many people complained that kindly bent to free us wasn't metal enough.--
No death growls doesn't equal 'not metal enough'. Kindly Bent To Free Us isn't metal at all, and adding death growls wouldn't make it 'more metal' the same way removing them from this doesn't make this 'less metal'.

I like Kindly Bent to Free Us, it’s pretty underrated imo

I like it, too. It's just not metal.

The lack of the growl offsets the other improvements. Disappointing, why did they meddle with this..

This is one of my favorite albums of all time and I can't imagine changing anything about it. Will listen against my better judgment...

Lol, this is a bit like having read the book and then watching the film...

growls removed = yawn
no, liking the remix in general but I feel it loses a huge dynamic that made the original mix legendary without the growls.

"So, not what we got with Nothing and You Fail me"
Spot on - the remaster of You Fail Me is infinitely better than the original, whereas I still listen to both versions of Nothing. This on the other hand feels really flat - listening on an expensive system, and there is a total void in the mid-range. Other than the crisper drums, there's nothing to draw me back to TIA Remixed.

Yikes the lack of the harsh vocals made me dislike this more than I thought. I otherwise like the mix just as much as the old, but the coat of paint is refreshing. But the only reason this won't be my new default version to listen to is the lack of the harsh vox.

This album is incredible.
However, I don't know which one to listen to now because everything sounds better on the new one except the harsh vocals add so much to the atmosphere that idk...

--Unnecessary remix.--
Why? There seems to be plenty of people that are enjoying it, and Paul Masvidal definitely likes this version better and it's his band. Fulfilling his vision for how the album should sound seems pretty necessary to me.

Can understand thinking it's unnecessary, don't understand why that makes it bad. Y'all act like you've never enjoyed or spent money on anything frivolous lol

I Feel like some ppl in this thread dont understand what death of the author means...
|

My problem with this remix isn’t even the lack of death growls, but rather how intrusive and irritating the new bass lines are
