Found a Jesus H Macy comparison vid on youtube to see if I can decipher what they did differently in the mix

Was it pretty much only on Tillian's voice?

While Til was the biggest and most important improvement, I thought most everything sounded beefier or more "full". Definitely not an expert tho lol

@Ecn look no further than comparing the last 30 or so seconds of doom & gloom on the original and 2.0. The instruments are completely beefed up and better.

When I was checkin the Jesus H Macy compare, Tillian def sounded better, and the guitars sounded like they had a little more depth, too. Mess pretty much sounded the same to me

I will check D&G, too. I was kinda surprised there wasn't more comparison stuff when I went searching for it on youtube. I really only found the one thing and then the two separate streams for the album

This album is a fucking masterpiece. I have listened to DGD here and there over the years, but it’s finally clicking for me. Idk why it took until now but god damn.

I imagine if life had an easy button Mess would be pressing it first and the Prisoner music video is that reality taking place.

That's a good question. I think it was for me. I really only gravitated to a few songs at first but then before I knew it I was listening cover to cover, repeatedly. I don't think this is as immediate as something like Instant Gratification (fitting title) or Mothership, but I do think this is better overall and as much as I love those records (I have them both at 5) I've grown to love this one so much more.

Someone pointed this out elsewhere, but the final line of this album being:

"Disregard the message from the ending of the album"

is a reference to the final lines at the end of DBM II:

"Oooh (I have gotta sense that this is overdone)

Oooh (But at least I'm having fun)"

The final lines on DBM II make make it sound like Mess wasn't sure if DGD was going to be able to continue on as a band, but 'at least I'm having fun' and then after Tilian joined and they recorded AS it sounds like he had regained confidence that it would work out and asked that we disregard the sentiment he shared on DBM II.

they're probably worth seeing regardless, they've been fantastic every time i see them... the set-list is always pretty predictable but whatever they're incredibly consistent
