new kim gordon is a little underwhelming (too many washed-out electronics, and not enough chaos), but there is plenty to like there as well

'God I don't know what's worse: sput's 2019 chart or RYM's'

I dislike RYM's a bit more - sput has the metal bias and I can live with that.

Lana,Tyler,JPEG,Lingua Ignota, Little Simz...these albums should be nowhere near a top 10 ranking

That industrial sound on her first single just sounds like shit too me.

I hate to sound like I have some sort of bias against electronic music. Actually, nevermind of course I do.

RYM's pop fetishism is pretty gross, but the metal sput wanks to is also pretty bad. Difficult conundrum for a bullheaded indie numbnuts like me.

I actually have four of the current top 5 for 2019 on the Sput chart sitting on a 4 rating, for my sins.

I could see a couple of those dropping to 3.5's by year's end but that top five could be a lot worse.

The Thank You Scientist is disgusting of course

How many albums have you listened to this year Doof mate. Trimmed it back to a mere 23 trillion?

the difference between good and bad electronic music is the same as guitar-driven rock - there's nuanced slinky electronic, and then there's dumb pummel (which is what the first single is).

New albums I'm starting to slow down. Last year was probably near 2500 new albums...this year more like 1500 :D

In all seriousness next year I'm calming it down, the exploration doesn't need to continue at this rate now - I have established a starting point lol

I'm striving for a cool 1000 ratings this year, about 110 away.

I'm jealous of TwigTW, the guy listens to nothing but 2019 shit apparently. I don't have even a sliver of that kind of drive and dedication.

I've rated 181 albums from 2019 according to the AOTY site, give or take a few that aren't on their database, and I thought that was pretty stalwart. It always seems I go to rate something and Twig's name is already there.

I'm not listening to any 2+ hour album so this won't join the list

For real, every time I click on his RYM, it's just 2019 releases. Dude's a tank.

On the album's length: at least I can never say he left us "Thurston" for "Moore" ever again. This thing is a beast.

I'd argue with you, but I don't think I could.
