Stellar review, read it while listening to the album, and I agree with every bit of the descriptions. Easily a 3.5++.
Loved Vortex's work in the most recent Arcturus album as well.

If only the second half of that last Arcturus album was as good as the first. "Demon" is a terrible fucking song.

Arcuturian is the most mediocre album they've released so far. It felt very by the numbers for a band that consistently pushed the envelope every release.

Eh, I'd say it's better than mediocre and an improvement over Sideshow. But it's probably not a good sign that the best songs rip off stuff from Sham Mirrors.

Damn, I haven't been this hype to listen to Borknagar album since like...2008

I like Simen's vocal contributions on the second Arcturus album, but I can't get into the newer Arcturus albums that he sings on. His voice has always kind of irritated me before this.

I remember the t/t coming up on my spotify feed and really enjoying it. Vortex can be a little bit to overdramatic in his approach, especially his vowel enunciation (like the Arcturian), but his vox on t/t were fitting perfectly as it seemed he towned it down a bit.
I was a bit disappointed reading that Vintersorg was dropped here, but it might be benificial to their sound since I remember that Winter Thrice was just a constant vocal attack with like 3 vocalist. It that was overbearing at times

Yes, I checked Sham Mirrors and Arcturian, and the latter felt mediocre af.

So true man. Disappointed by that one, especially since it was marketed as being ''something else entirely for these shapeshifting envelope-pusing weirdos'' and what we got was like time stood still for 10 years or so.

Ehh, I'll gladly take Arcturian over La Masquerade Infernale. Sideshow Symphonies is criminally underrated, too.

'La Masquerade Infernale' has a few really cool songs, and the rest is kind of average or filler. But it was so different for its time, especially after their debut, that a pass is kind of given if all the experimentation didn't exactly work out.

Honestly, arcturus in general is really hit or miss for me. I like the but none of their albums are absolute favorites for me. Prefer borknagar
