There's a lotta melodies here that are just as old hat coming out of the Antonoff playbook

Video Games was a jaw-dropper when it came out. Then Lana started being interviewed and performing and it was wind up toy time.

very surprised LDR became the overwhelming critical darling of 2019 when this is just an amplified version of what she'd been trashed for earlier in the decade
|
| |
people claiming this album 'lays the artist's heart bare' prob deserves another docked .5 from my score tbh because she's a total automaton and the narrative behind this release is shamelessly contrived and naff - but it's serviceable fluff, couple of decent songs at the beginning of the album

A very long way to say this boring and redundant.

Doof doesn't get Lana so he thinks he's right

Lol it's the year 2019 and Lana del Rey is purported as an artist you have to 'get'
|
| |
80% of you slags don’t ‘get’ anything. You’re nothing but infantile, naive brainless fannies.
But I love ya.

So much to get here guyz

I mean there are a couple slightly weaker moments here but “Mariners Apartment Complex”, “Venice Bitch”, “The Greatest”, and “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing...” are about as undeniable as anything released this year.

Woman with two decent vocal melody ideas releases three too many albums: The end
If you’re ‘getting’ more than that you prob already been got, capeesh?
|

I just don’t get why people who like LDR for her heavily mannered affectations then can’t see that other people are ‘been there, got the vintage t-shirt’ about the whole style

Well I'd only heard her in passing before this so perhaps it helped that I had no fatigue with the style coming in? Taken on its own terms I think this is about as great as singer/songwriter music gets in 2019. Nothing new necessarily but I just think it's executed really well.

Fair play to her and her writing team for squeezing some more miles out of the tank but I’m sorry the Weyes Blood is far superior to this...and that album is a teeny bit bland and obvious about its influences
This is too bland, too familiar, too manufactured - for my tastes
It’s ok, it gets a 2.5 - there’s a lot worse

Your number 3 album of the decade is Benji and you're talking about blandness/familiarity and obvious influences here??
Manufactured sure, but it works.

you have to "get" LDR now, apparently.
The fact that this album was the centre of the aoty discussion for 2019 is just disappointing, tbh. There's nothing to hate here, it's perfectly bland music.

Not sure what you're getting at with that, Benji is probably one of the most original singer/songwriter albums of the decade...

Benji had some novelty unlike this. As Doof said, this is, for the most part, a tired repeat of her older albums.
