Brockhampton is the definition of hipster rap my friend

just cuz some record labels noticed alt-rap is hot rn doesn’t mean they aren’t counter-cultural to the majority of hip hop artists

Maybe the correct term would be “People who present themselves as being hipster and counter-cultural but still end up only listening to top-40 artists and fantano-core”

I've said it before in this thread and I'll say it again... why do they feel the need to stack their albums with features all the sudden? They already have like 7 different rappers/vocalists/whatever.

When I listen to a brockhampton album I want BROCKHAMPTON, not Kevin Abstract feat. all these other rappers. Like I don't understand the point of continuing as a group like that (besides $$$) if half the members barely do anything anymore.

What made Brockhampton so appealing in the first place was them being a collection of oddball misfit musicians who could come together and make something much greater than the sum of their parts. Now they need slowthai stand alone tracks and Rocky features on their albums. Haven't even pressed play and I'm already sorta disappointed.

"why do they feel the need to stack their albums with features all the sudden?"

This is the only time they've stacked their album with feats tho. Ginger had what? One Slowthai verse, and the rest of it was all BH. Iri had that Serpentwithfeet feature and that was it, unless you're counting Jaden Smith's worthless feature on the first track.

and trust me when I say this, none of the features on the new album make an impact either to the point where they outshine the group....except Peggy on Chain On, he completely puts Dom in a blender.

New album was pretty meh on first listen, probably my least favourite. Joba absolutely fucking slays on The Light though, like holy fuck his lyrics are insane. What's The Occasion? is quality as well, other than that, meh. Dom was a big let down on it, dude is usually consistent as fuck but he just felt bland this time.

Yeah idk if I'd consider them mainstream outside of like... Sugar's tik tok status. They're "alt"-culture superstars for sure tho. Like Metallica pre-black album... insanely popular outsider group to those "in the know", but not really a huge name to people outside of that stratosphere.

Theyre definitely quite successful but yeah they're by no means A Listers in hip hop. Even when it comes to hipster hip hop Tyler is probably bigger

They do call Brockhampton a household name in the new album though lmao

I doubt any song on this will be bigger than Sugar
