As for the average going down - that was nothing but to be expected if Reclaimer was any indicator. Once the first wave of the smitten has subsided, the more toned down voices are coming to the forefront.

It was actually at 4.5 at 100 votes, and after your review went out the next 100 votes averaged like a 3.7. Not saying it’s your fault, just that people in general shouldn’t be swayed so easily. I suppose you could say the same for the first review though.

I didn't publish this review at a 100 votes either (in actuality it would have been closer to 150 votes). I mean I could take your point if that was the case but I think it's just a natural average occurring. By the same means as the new Falls Of Rauros average for example (and that doesn't have a middle scored review).

People might not be directly affected by a review score, but they may read an issue or gripe and it may become more noticeable next listen and vice versa. I'm not arguing about who did what. It's honestly an interesting topic to discuss.

Kind of a hive mind effect. For years people reacted positively and negatively to an album just based on pitchfork scores (on both sides). Sputnik has always had this in a way as well concerning the user base. A review can easily spike a different reception, which is pretty silly, but journalism seems to always have that effect on people, to varying degrees or none at all, for a few, all depending on the individual.

If someone already said something like this, sorry. I havent read the last few pages (edit).

People are incredible. Reactions are as well. Hype is the best time for journalism to strike.

Jared pls review before this ends up with a 3 average XD

In all seriousness though, it's a very surprising score from you and I'd love to know why

Listened to this again on the way to work today. Sad to say it's lost most of its luster. Glad I didn't rate it a 4.5 out of haste

Those heartfelt moments where first impressions lie. My sympathies,

There are few albums that can actually hold that 'initial' feeling.

It was very much like this with Reclaimer for me too, though that one has some better highs. The vocal experimentation brings it down slightly though

But yeah, I don't see this being a constant spin in the nearest future, sadly

I have an alternative theory for why the average has dropped - what if the monstrous early average coerced (otherwise reluctant) interest from other corners of Sput, i.e. from people who wouldn't usually have been interested? You're likely to get a mixed bag of scores from users who're either genre naysayers, or have little experience in said genre and are just trying something new.

I probably wouldn't have checked this if the average was sitting anywhere in the mid-3s.

I believe Demon has a good point here. The more this gets discovered by people who usually are not into that type of stuff, chances are avg will drop due to more diversity in the rating scheme.

bout the album itself: let it sink for a few days now and I think this is definitely one of the best deatchore releases in the recent years (the great collapse takes the crown though). I do think the clean choruses drag this down a bit, since their pretty repetetive in structure. Production is also debatable and the instrumental, while a bold move, is just too long for its own good imho.

Btw: I'm kinda new here, so don't go too hard on me, english is not my first language
