The 1s are justified. This album is just disingenuous, trend-following swill. Definitely one of the worst albums this year for me

I found it to be pretty much average radio rock, I think the level of disdain felt towards this depends on your tolerance for basic alt-rock. I grew up listening to the Seethers, Breaking Benjamins, etc of the world - and even though I've long outgrown that kind of music, I don't find this to be too atrocious. Just pointless, if anything.

Unleashed got a 1.8 average so this reaction really isn't surprising to me at all

It actually amazes me Rise is only 0.2 higher than this currently, I rate that album at least a 3.
Unleashed clings on to a 2 on the basis of some decent high moments.

I actually think Rise is worse than both Unleashed OR this. There's some good stuff on it too, but the second half tends to drag hard and that whole concept album thing they were going for really fell flat.

Skillet was always a generally terrible band that got lucky with two decent back-to-back releases (Collide and Comatose) before going back to being terrible.

I grew up on that stuff as well and still enjoy both of the bands you named from time to time. even back then I thought this band was utter garbage.

Ember is a far better example of sticking to a formula.

Ironic album title

'Rise Up' straight up sounds like any other song they've released within the last couple of years. Compare this to, let's say, Feel Invinciple. Same drum beat, same focus and emphasis on syllables so it's basically a total repetition of a song that already exists. I swear i've listened to atleast 4-5 different versions of the same, generic song. Fuck this band.

Maybe a bit of a step up from Unleashed, but not by much. Probably the most generic album they’ve come out with so far.

I honestly still love Comatose and owe it for me getting into music. This has just become so disappointed because they’re capable of more, but just choosing to not go for it. I don’t even know why I have it that extra .5 honestly

Yea this album sounds like they literally just don't care. That's the sad part. Yea Comatose is pretty good. But wow, looking at the youtube videos for the songs from this album, this is like the most loved band ever, including this album. The fans are just eating this up in huge numbers.

Yeah, I truly don't get. I love me some good hard rock (Red, Starset, even some Breaking Ben...) but this band are so bottom of the barrel. Even their best moments are just above average.
Thinking about it now, I wonder if Rob Graves could help them because nearly everything that man touches is fantastic.

I can't believe this guy literally had blackface on in the last album's cover art. Never thought I'd say Skillet and Peste Noire had something in common but today is the day. Both had blackface. At least Peste Noire did it as an obvious joke while Skillet takes themselves 100% seriously.
Really though, why blackface?

I'm not sure covering your entire body in mud, to include most of your face, really counts as "blackface".
