the background laughs in white bat's pre chorus make my eyes roll clean out of my head every time, that's the main issue.

My personal ratings are simple. Love (5), like (4), tolerate (3), dislike (2), hate (1).
I attempt to be more objective and nuanced with the reviews, so I put a little more thought into whether something I like deserves a 3.5, a 4 or a 4.5.

My ratings are more Love (4) Like (3.5) Okay (3) Dislike (2.5) Hate (2)
I'll re-evaluate albums for 4.5 and 5s after five and ten years have passed, respectively. Mostly to provide a space for albums that are culturally and musically important. For instance, I wouldn't say my favorite album last year, Hopesfall, is a five when I've got Pink Floyd's Dark Side as a five. I just feel that time has to be a factor.
You've got to be a special kind of terrible to be less than a 2 in my book, though I've awarded them to albums that I not only dislike, but are actually offensive to music, as a concept.

Lol bloc, it's about damn time!
And agreed about the offensive albums. I don't give albums a 1 unless they're lolbad. I also don't generally rate albums unless I listen to them enough for them to make a proper impression, and I don't waste my time repeatedly listening to something that doesn't make a decently good first impression, so I don't usually bother to rate albums I don't like.

1s are albums that I listen to once, only in part, and immediately know that they're utter shit, never to return to in any capacity.
|
| |
4.5s make my year-end list, and 5s are reserved for a handful of albums per year that I believed were the standouts of 20xx

Not why there should be any need for two different ratings in the first place but whatever. You do you I guess.
