It does get better as it goes. Maybe it will grow on me.

Only listened a couple times but the first two tracks are my least favs. Everything else is pretty consistently excellent. Parts of this sound a lot like Boards of Canada which I like, could always use more music like that.

Yeah I can sense those BoC vibes, which can never be a bad thing. First two tracks are excellent though, I like the quiet ambience that comes later but the album benefits from that more assertive (relatively) start.

Oi! muh name is Thom Yorke mate. And i'm ear to tell ye' that even doe in rainbows was a complete failure in showing that capitalism is a debunk system and telling the populace to putt a price on an album made us lose money. hears some music for hear e' hear e'.

I don’t know about this guys, especially coming off Suspiria last year this is pretty low on good Thom melodies and I don’t feel most of the composition is all that compelling. It’s decent but I’m thinking that’s about it.

i like the minimal techno/idm influence here, that makes the album compelling for me rather than the standard yorke-isms. this is a good rec for fans of kelly lee owens

not bad, i appreciate thom's ingenuity more than i enjoy actually listening to this, the synthy thing is a little repetitive as well

Not getting the vibe/hype at all after first listen. Yorke's writing sounds discombobulated and strained. Great combination of panning with layering, impeccable production, routinely annoying synth use. Just end up getting a headache.

I'll try the Netflix doc and maybe another spin or two, but for now I'd rather see him do more works like Suspiria.

I think some people are missing a few things here:

1. yes, this isn't a soundtrack, but it really sounds informed by Thom composing a soundtrack - because unlike Radiohead who are by and large always writing 'in service of the song' in a recognisably conventional way - sometimes here it sounds like Yorke is composing more like a soundtrack with ripples, swells, movements, slow builds, even more orchestral flourishes here and there (esp in the second halves of songs). A lot of the music here would, you guessed it, make great soundtrack music.

2. this album is more convincing than KoL as the electronics don't feel like an afterthought (like they do on a few tracks of KoL) and all the tracks feel unified and substantial. KoL has three electronic songs of this sort of quality (1,5,8), three about the quality of mid tier songs on The Eraser, and two 'not top tier Radiohead' ballads. So I believe this album is far superior - it's a more convincing and natural sounding 'electronic album'. It also feels far more 'fleshed out' than his two other solo releases.

3. I don't think it helps that the opening song is either the weakest or second weakest number - add in the fact a fair few tracks start in a similar fashion to that one (and each other) and I think people get wary and fatigued and sort of half switch off. I'd almost recommend skipping the opener on some listens, or even starting at track 3 or track 7 sometimes to mix it up at first.
