it’s more that I didn’t listen to a ton in 2019, maybe 100 albums total lol

backhanded-ass “compliment”
shame, Johnny, i thought your love for this was unconditional.
Dewi: will check the new F!O soon and report back (though i have a feeling i would prefer them sticking to their own compositions), BUT in the meantime, you should check out “Éons” by Neptunian Maximalism. I think based on your love of stuff like this and Bohren etc., you’d dig it. Much more sprawling and a much darker tone overall but goddamn it’s incredible.

my sentiment is that this album should be praised without qualifiers ;-)

you said you thought my love for this was unconditional, implying we ever discussed the album prior to like 20 minutes ago. was a confusing comment, so i assumed you mistook me for JotW seeing as he has commented ITT aplenty. or you're four sheets to the wind, beats me

Album Rating: 4.0
Yeah I like it! Around 4.0 level at the moment. Some of it is a bit too saccharine for me (Blue Crystal Fire is well and truly in my allergy-for-weepy-strings zone), but most of it is very nice!

...but Blue Crystal Fire is almost literally a Portishead song with no beats?!

Album Rating: 4.0
"with no beats?!" There is problem No. 1 (I'm a HUGE sucker for those nice hip hop beats!) Problem No. 2 is that Beth's icy coldness would make it less syrupy, whereas this lady has a much sweeter voice.
Also no way would they ever go for something that sweet. I actually don't get Portishead vibes from that track at all.

That blu-uuue vocal inflection is pure Beth and I d a r e you to jam Roads rn and not hear that. Never thought of these vocals are particularly sweet tbh, rly clear tone but I'm not sure syrupy is the most representative qualifijective hm

I don’t remember thinking of Portishead back when I was jamming this, it’s been a while though (well, 18 months? That’s a long time in music-land).
