The aesthetic just doesn’t work here for me, it sounds like every local metalcore band I grew up with, only drowned in reverb with some tremolo picking. Even the vocals give off that feeling. Without the context of that mid 2000s stuff this sounds fine, but it’s pretty hard to take an album totally out of historical context and enjoy it.

As totally different example, M8L8th’s “By the Wing of Black” is pretty well regarded here but the way the riffs remind me of Gothenburg style melodeath worked into the viscious black metal aesthetic doesn’t work for me.

Harsh vocals are straight BM/OSDM tbh...and I love how they get that echo "belongs to mei mei mei" lol its definetely not music from my hometown
