I think the glossy orchestration is overdone at a few points, but I find it works well for the most part. To each their own...

I love the sound on this. And I’d have to disagree on Stones, that’s one of my favorites

Man, I just went on a bit of a Springsteen binge and this album has honestly floored me. Strongly considering 5'ing this. The orchestral bits sound almost intentionally cheesy at points, like the backing music in a lot of old western films that this album achingly de-mystifies.
Great review by the way, pos'd

As a huge fan of Springsteen this just felt like a little bit of a letdown after my first listen to be honest, maybe I had high hopes... but I was definitely expecting songs like 'Devils & Dust, American Skin (41 shots), Shut out the Light, Wages of Sin, Atlantic City' and the like - and I'm just not feeling it here. This is almost too clean for me. Def gonna look into this more with further listens ofc.
One thing I have to say is I love the album cover at least haha

I'm not a fan of the squeaky clean production that Bruce has leaned on sometimes in the last decade or so, but here I think it largely works because of the mostly cinematic aesthetics. It really does feel like Bruce is giving us amazing storytelling over an old western film score and I dig it

A little tragic this nice but latter day 'blah not really got a lot unique to say' album has nearly 50 votes and Callahan's career peak double album has less than 20

This did get better on my second listen, but it is still lacking. Definitely too upbeat, clean, safe and happy.
The title track is the only one that stood out somewhat

This might be his best album since Tunnel of Love, or Born in the USA.
