Only an initial rating but I doubt this will go above a 3.5 which seems to be this band’s ceiling.
Could be a 3 or 3.5 after ten listens sure. Listened to half of Purple last night and I thought it was a bit more engaging than this one :/

I'd Do Anything sounds like a drone/ambient cover of a dubstep summer hit.

Could this be their best album art?

definitely 3-3.5...need to give more spins to eventually bump.

This sits probably around the 2.5 mark for me. These guys don't really do it for me. Dunno why. Maybe I'm going into their music with the wrong expectations. Not enough oomph and the hooks aren't all that hooky.
Great album art tho.

I'm a sucker for this band and I'm loving a good portion of the record, but it's just plain unlistenable.

Hey Thala...first 2 albums are considerably better hookwisely, lol, have you tried those?

Yeah, Red is good. Blue...meh

I might've been biased relistening to blue after this one...yesterday I thought it was pretty damn good.

Nah, Blue is their best. Red second. Listening to Purple again now in full for the first time in ages - that’s third. All 3.5s.
‘Shock Me’ and ‘Chlorine’ are better than anything on this, maybe Kerosene too.
Depends how much the closer on this grows on me - that’s the only stand out track so far. Tourniquet is solid. The rest is pretty run of the mill, with a couple of bad plodding ballads in the middle.

Don't get the hate for this. Other than the mix being shit, it's a great record full of experimentation and some real bangers. They stepped up the prog quite a bit and it feels like the logical musical direction from Purple

Songs are just not great.
Purple was their ‘pop album’ and I thought it did alright for an ‘eight 4+ minute tunes’ straightforward set :/
Seems a lot stronger than this to me.
Also that album had more of that Thin Lizzy lead work, nothing really grabs me from this.

I thought Yellow and Green were their "pop albums", Doof. I know several people who disliked Yellow and Green because of that.
As for Gold & Grey, it's alright. Songwriting could be more interesting.

This has their freshest musical ideas in years though.
I do miss the thin lizzy twin leads though

Doof check out the new Dangerous Summer it's a banger

Honestly, I really liked some tracks on Yellow and Green, especially on Yellow. From what I've been told, the consensus was that it wasn't a good follow-up to Blue at all, though.
On a side note, totally agree on "Pale Sun" and "Tourniquet" being the best tracks, Doof.

Allow me to swim against the current: Cold-Blooded Angels is actually one of the better songs.

I just can't get over the production. 'Unlistenable' as an aesthetic choice needs to die with black metal.
