"I can understand it seeming off during the more straight forward rock tracks. I guess I've just come to expect Baroness production to have this lo-fi aesthetic."

agreed

Do people who hate the production here ever listened to the Armed's Only Love? Just curious

I did - but that album is intentionally noisy and abrasive all round, pretty good album

The kind of production Thrice used on Beggars would have suited this nicely I suspect.

I agree with you on the Armed but I would say Baroness is also intentionally noisy but it just doesn't make as much sense in the context of the sound they are going for.

I'm not sure where I fully stand on this album yet but I do enjoy a lot of it. The instrumental interludes are a little underwhelming though compared to cuts like Fugue or Strechmarker from their last few albums

I also like Only Love but wasn't bothered by anything production wise on that record. Does it use similar techniques to what is used here (clipping or whatever?) I can't really remember it sounding anything like this.

Stop talking about production. Album its only good...there's some scarely kiddie ballads here...and the songs that could be really cool are too damn short.

I think the production goes against the music's grain most of the time here though. I think moments like Seasons are brilliant when it works, but for the most part it doesn't. Still, Songwriting is best sing blue, easily imo. And because of that, this album deserves AT LEAST as much credit as Yellow & Green and Purple

i just don't get how bands of this caliber can end up with this bad of production. my bands make zero dollars and our production destroys this.

Yeah, I think this is confined to 4 territory for now, shame too cuz some of their best stuff is on here

Melon reviewed this and gave it a 5. Pretty much the same complaints I had, but I think this album has much better songwriting than he gives it credit for and I'm more willing to power through the mix.

That being said, not even trying to throw shade or anything, but I honestly feel like I am on a completely different page than others on Purple because I just don't understand the praise that gets thrown at it.

I dunno, I like this but the songwriting overall doesn’t really surpass anything they’ve done in the past

A few songs at a time. Album art is phenomenal, as usual.

Whoever mixed this album needs to reconsider their profession.

Baffling how this sounds even worse than Purple.
