Then you need to check - but he's one if you haven't heard before might take a little while to click with you.
He's got a distinctive voice so you need to relax into that

May be the worst sound out of all their albums.

Yeah I really thought y’all were just bitchin about the production here but oh my god it genuinely might be the worst I’ve ever heard lmao

It's weird. I hate the production in some areas, but I really love it in others. I have the LP playing as I write this, and I still really enjoy how the mix works in Broken Halo, Borderlines, parts of Anchor, and some of the quieter moments. Usually the weirder moments with the shoegazey kinda stuff going on sound cool to me, but some of the quieter moments sound abysmal to me. I still think this is their best record by far, and I just listened to "First & Second" for the first time the other day, but the production confuses me. I find it kind of funny how they know, because on side C, it says something along the lines of "distorted harmonies, brickwalled sounds" right on the label. I think the one place where I both love and hate it the most has to be "Seasons," one of my fave tracks they've ever done. I love the super noisy ending with the acoustic guitars over this swirling tornado of feedback, but the transition into the blastbeat section kinda sucks in my opinion. I don't have a very good setup for listening to records: it's a pioneer pl l30 to a microphono pp400 pre amp, all hooked up to some bose home theater system, so that is probably affecting my listening experience. Regardless, I love this record in spite of the weird production. Maybe it's just Stockholm Syndrome, I dunno.

Sucks to say but this is the best album to ever have god awful production. I want to like it more but listening to this for extended periods just destroys my ears.

do the people who think the production is terrible on this also think the production on, I dunno, The Woods is terrible? same guy, haven't heard this, just curious. The WOods has a blown-out divisive quality but it's fucking dope

You know what the secret is? Listen to this album using those cheap earphones that came with Huawei phones from 2010 and you'll be fine

Never heard The Woods, but I can tell you other loud albums like Death Magnetic are also difficult for me to listen all the way through
|
| |
Embryonic is definitely like that too. But that album's fire as well

Not denying loud albums can be good, its just frustrating when it's difficult to listen to something that would otherwise be awesome
|
| |
oh yea there are definitely albums that are worse because of the loud mixing and I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case here. sleater-kinney were def going for this blown-out sound that I think complements the songwriting really well on The Woods and flaming lips' psychedelia is I think enhanced in a similar way by the intense production but this might just be trashy sounding etc. I suppose I have an unusual amount of faith in individual producers though, which is why I ask The WOods question even though that album's quality in no way guarantees this one's
but The Woods is fucking flames imho, everyone should listen to The Woods
