Good move to revisit Gyro. I'm actually emotionally invested in your journey through that album, I need more validation about it being their best thing ever.
And thanks Pikazilla, seems like we're on the same page about this record just not the rest of their discography (I feel they only got better after Swoon).

in all seriousness, skin graph is actually incredible, not sure why i didn't connect with it the first time i played it. it was a kind of passive listen while i was doing housework though. that final minute is so good, love the distortion at like 4:50 before they jump back into the chorus. really cool moment.

This is pretty good but also pretty disappointing
Agree with sowing that they build lots of foundation/potential to kick off and then the songs just don't go anywhere

Kissing Families is amazing, yeah. The whole EP is damn underrated. I might have to go on a SSPU reviewing spree. So much I want to get off my chest about Pikul & Neck of the Woods.

Never listened to this band but I've heard their name for many years, thrown around. What's bizarre is always thought they were a pop rock band aligned with groups like Anberlin or something. They were always mentioned, when I heard of them alongside really awful bands like Silverstein for some reason (the emo crowd) so I never listened to them for that reason .
But their tags on this site say indie rock and say they are similar to smashing pumpkins and my bloody valentine. strange. Is it poppy and annoying like... say... From First to Last? Those are the bands I've heard them mentioned along with before. Maybe the people talking about it at that time were morons.

just heard kissing families for the first time and... meh. it's decent, i expected more. seen that song hyped tf up for years and never thought to check it until now but idk what's so special about it. latter half does have some cool moments tho

I drove for an hour last night and listened to this again. It has so many good moments, even if there’s less payoff than folks we’re hoping for. Like, “Once again, with feeeeeeling” from Freakazoid or the solo on Neon Wound or the second chorus on We Are Chameleons. Even the chorus of Don’t Know Yet is some pop rock gold that Reliant K or Anberlin would be jealous of.
