It's my truth. Believe me, I wish I loved the current Spiritbox material much as you did.

Oh man me too. I think it's just about perfect, but probably because I'm not judging by the exact same criteria as you.
For me, almost nothing grooves and bounces quite as much as EP1+2. Last.fm says I've listened to those 12 tracks 550 times in the past year. I usually can't bear to repeat something that much because it wears out its welcome and ruins future listen-ability. But there's just something about their production and delivery that makes it evergreen. And now that I think about it, I'm not a huge fan of the way maybe ~half of their songs are written and structured. But I'm a simple man, and if I can get anything resembling clean picking over thick, bouncy rhythmic chugging with an ounce of atmosphere then you're golden, baby. All of the peak moments of each song more than make up for other discrepancies for me, which I don't even factor into rating here because overall the highs are that high for me. This quite simply rips shit. These guys shred ASS.

Hahahah nah I love all of their songs, but they don't always go the way I wish. More than made up for by the rest of the songs with killer climaxes and structure. I can't even paint you a picture of specific examples, just overall. Still a hard 5 though. A hard, hard 5.

that's right, this band is exempt from criticism. If you think otherwise I've got brass knuckles ready.

New song has grown on me hard. That intro is pure stank-face, don't care if it's generic djent.

Totally, it doesn't do anything particularly new but it's solid AF
Let me throw more music at you fellas. It's djent-adjacent. Maybe it's just djent. I don't know how people define that genre anymore.
Anyhow, Fellsilent had a vocalist named Neema Askari. Fellsilent broke up and split into Tesseract & Monuments. Neema was in Monuments for a little bit but left before any album release.
Then Neema uploaded a couple tracks to Soundcloud and vanished for years. I have been listening to his song Helix for yeeeaaars. It's addicting as hell.
He finally resurfaced some months back with more new songs on his Soundcloud, then a killer Helix remaster, and out of the blue he's done vocals on a kickass new djenty project called Form Subtract.
Point is: Go check out Helix by Neema Askari on Spotify (remaster should be specified), and then check out "Autonomist" by Form Subtract. Both have so few listeners that it makes me sad.
I bring this up because Form Subtract just hit me like Spiritbox did and I am ADDICTED. The 4 songs on their new EP will not leave my head.
It sounds very much like prototypical djent, but that's not a pejorative. Instrumentally I love it. It fuckin bounces. Then you add in Neema, who's maybe just skyrocketed to my top ~5 vocalists in metal. He delivers some lines normally, and a ton of lines in a wonky, off-kilter way that's closer matched to the guitars' groove instead of being their own melodic thing off in the distance. Some lines are borderline rapped? It's sick man.
Like...maybe my first comparison would be SiKth? But I couldn't really get used to Mikee's vocals but here I love Neemas. Like town down Sikths vocals by 70% and you've got something nice and tempered but still super different.
He's got some good harsh vocals too. Check it out whenever you have the time man, you might like one or two songs from the Autonomist EP. It's a short EP though so just give it all a whirl. It's starting to get annoying that I really can't get these songs out of my head. Also, Helix. Fucking Helix.

Listening again now haha. Beyond the Self is soooooo gooooooood. And Know Your Enemy. Actually they're all just killer. Awesome lyrics too, which I think are on their Bandcamp. I think Beyond the Self is the catchiest thing I've heard in months.

Ahhh likewise man, I did give Johari a few tries recently and wasn't digging it, but it could have just been my state of mind ¯_(ツ)_/¯

To clarify, I had nothing against the music just the vocals didn't grab me on either one. I tend to have this problem with a lot of djent bands. For Johari I recommend Pale Blue or the recent singles.

For whatever reason most djent vocals suck.

Great shout with that Neema recommendation. I've also been keeping an eye on him since the Fellsilent/Early Monuments days. I love his approach to vocals. My problem with solo stuff is that he needs a proper producer and mixing engineer. You can tell his core songwriting is strong, but his execution needs a good deal of polish.

Yeah, his solo stuff on Spotify is a bit rough, but as demos I love them. The Form Subtract stuff certainly sounds amazing now that he's got a producer behind him worrying about the instrumentals and mixing and he just has to do vocals. Really excited to see where that project goes.
