What if I value novelty over both technicality and emotion?

The way you've been talking about this would suggest a lower rating, Pots. You have it as a 3 but I can't recall anything nice you've said about it.

Probably because the general consensus is that it's fantastic
He feels like he has to justify that his rating is lower
If everyone was 1ing this and he 3'd it still, it may seem like he was overhyping it just as it looks like he's currently underhyping it.
I've been like this as well, like when Radiohead released A Moon Shaped Pool and I 3.5'd it, I'd focus on its negative qualities more when discussing it rather than its positive ones because I felt like I had to justify why my rating wasn't higher

Basically yeah

Fair enough. I guess we all do this a bit. I don't think this is being especially over hyped tho. I think you should perhaps direct your attention to the new National album lol

Why does he need to direct his attention to sleeping pills? Is Potsy suffering from insomnia?
|
| |
Lol. Some of the usual are fanboying pretty hard. This mustn't be permitted to continue!

Well I actually generally like Herndon so it's a bit different than a band I have no interest in

if it weren’t for the singles I’d 3 this

i think it's funny to note that ali was absolutely gushing over this album on fb to me, telling me it's his electronic aoty and encouraging me to review it, only to downplay it a day later and troll the thread and say how the ai is overemphasized (something he praised at length a day prior). just figured i'd mention that, since he's clearly trying to provoke a response from me lol.

great review, thanks!
I'm only at track 3, but yeah, this is great. Pretty sure I'll go and check her out when she's playing a show here.

cheers. glad to see some people are enjoying this.

Lol at you thinking my shifting opinion on this record is about you. I was caught up in the initial hype and the glitzy concept that I overlooked the album's clear flaws... outside of a few brilliant tracks it's not very good. "Crawler" and "Last Gasp" suck, and most of the shorter tracks aren't engaging after the first listen. She's more focused on winning the science fair than creating enjoyable music. I have to jump around the tracklist every time I spin this so I don't see lasting appeal, it's destined to be a flavor-of-the-month.

This thread is like some weird sput ego fest
|
| |
i don't think it's about me, but you were trying to provoke me a few pages back in a pretty blatant way, and you keep telling me how "so and so is better than proto". like, all right, i get it.
js19: not trying to make it about ego, i'm just looking to discuss the album with people. i'm all for divergent opinions.
