Spotify has completely revolutionized how the common music fan listens to music, agreed.

Also, ya'll seriously need to listen this group's other work. No excuse for me being the only person on here who has listened to/rated it with all the shit I've been talking. It's fantastic stuff.

Hey y'all, I just wanted to poke my head in here and say a massive thank you for all the kind words. Jack especially, this review was super thoughtful and really means a lot. A friend sent over this link and it warmed my heart to read. I just made this account to say thank you.
I make music for myself, as a form of expression, with no audience in mind when I write. This album means a lot to me in this regard (and every regard), so it's nice to hear that it resonates with some like-minded folks across the world.
As for the Japanese thing: it's true, I'm American. I majored in Music Recording and minored in Japanese Language and Cultural Studies so this album is my best attempt at merging these two fields of study. I mean absolutely no harm by it. I'm well aware that there is a fine line between appreciation and appropriation, and I tried to err on the side of caution and respect when I put these pieces together. The titles and influences come through reading and researching folk studies (specifically Japanese ghost stories), and analyzing and consuming folk music. The reason for the titles of tracks 5, 9, and 15 being in Japanese is that they have no direct translation:
5. I translated 夜想曲 as Nocturne, but it can also be interpreted as "night souvenir" or "song of night visions."
9. Tsukubai (蹲踞) is a washbasin for ritual cleansing found in Japanese shrines but its etymology comes from the word for bowing and humbleness. The nature sounds in the song were recorded on a bench in a Japanese garden in Portland, right by a Tsukubai. I simply felt the name was fitting.
15. 思い出の遺骨 plays upon an English homonym for "remains." The Japanese word used here is specifically for corporeal remains, ashes or bones, and is referenced by the song that leads into it. So the title phrase is meant to suggest that memories can take a bodily form and can decay just as living matter does.
I hope that clears things up.
Lastly, I'll work on the Spotify thing. I personally disagree with the way Spotify operates but I understand/cannot deny its utility in modern society. I hadn't figured there would be a demand for my music on Spotify, so I just left it out.
Thank you all,
Matt
