“The attention to the details from these guys is amazing”
Indeed. The drumming on The Atavist’s Meridian is a fine example

Just jammed Paradise Gallows again, gonna give this another listen now. m/

first Inter Arma ive listened to and this album is definitely gonna need some front to back uninterrupted listens to properly gauge how im feeling on it. "brutal" comes to mind for now anyway.
"howling lands", "stillness", and "blood on the lupines" are my favorites for now. also the closer

This is more focused indeed. Paradise gallows is more eclectic and I love it for that.

Agree with that. This seems more streamlined and consistent for better or for worse.

On my 3rd listen. This is really varied and enjoyable. Requires a lot of attention.

Thought this works well as a casual listen too. Some riffs linger.

saw them live a few months ago, and I think most of the songs they played that night were from this album. their drummer is a BEAST

I remember these guys from my four years in DC. It seemed - well, still seems - that Richmond has produced a lot of great bands. IA was one of them. Live? Rad! On the album? Not so much; however, this album finally clicks with me.

This review perfectly encapsulates my feelings toward this album. The samler platter/entree metaphor is spot on. The puzzle pieces finally fit and the end result is absolutely massive.
Each song i so intricatley detailed and enigmatic, yet so distinct. The slow, crawling song structure never feels tiresome.
Beatifully written review for an amazing album.
