there's a plethora of old 10-15min youtube vids of pre-periphery matt just tearing up this kit that consists of just a snare / hi hat / kick + sometimes a cymbal or floor tom with zero backing track and his drums not even mic'd and it is absolutely insane the amount of range he gets. borderline hypnotizing

With the exception of "Reptile" this album rehashes so many ideas that they'd previously done. "Satellites" is "Lune". "It's Only Smiles" is "The Way the News Goes". It feels like an album on cruise control. By comparison, V takes some risks and has them pay off.
