"I think they are definitely at fault for releasing an album such as this with such an epic opener in Reptile to follow up with a multitude of "mediocre" songs by comparison."

So if they had ended with Reptile this would have been a hard 5?

It is hard for me to say, for I believe Periphery to thrive most within the concept album setting, in Juggernaut I loved when they tied the songs together with motifs and such, basically, for me, P1 -> P4 Periphery is the beta version Periphery, and Juggernaut is the alpha version where they can really display their songwriting skills on a much bigger scale

Tbh I wouldn't have minded if they made all of the P1 -> P4 LPs EPs from the start, because every album has a couple of songs that aren't all too necessary, also I think they are going overkill with the numbered LPs, if they release a P5 next, I will be annoyed, even an EP next I would be more happy with

Because the P4 tone is actually quite questionable, they say in interviews that they just wanted to make a fun album, with loads of great riffs and whatever, but I get a darker tone and comes off as more serious then what they let on, the "Suck My Balls" thing at the end doesn't fit the tone, if it was an EP it would make more sense, cause they are having fun with a short project, but P4, as it stands, is an overstuffed identity crisis of so many conflicting tones (cough much like P3, P2 and P1)

why not just pretend the number doesn't exist? what difference does that numbered thing even make compared to other bands' LPs?

P4 -> P1 essentially feel like extended EPs to me, with no specific tone, if they release a P5 it will most likely be the same way in which they did the other 4, they couldn't even think of a good enough name to give P4 because of how much of a Frankenstein it is, so they just went with a meme title as a compromise

i think that's just how they generally write, man. not sure the number has much to do with it

ok so my last piece on this is as follows because I know not many people here would agree with this, I don't hate P4 or any of the numbered LPs, I just wished that they stuck more to a more specific tone, the Reptile tone on P4, is IMO where they made their best work, I wish they made an album specifically on that tone, this would make it easier to think of a more inspired album title, artwork, and vision for the album

I can definitely agree with your last comment. Starting the record with Reptile leaves the listener with not much to look forward to, even though there are stellar tracks like It's Only Smiles, Sentient Glow and Satellites

Really hoping the Mark rumors aren’t true... but I have a terrible feeling that they are.

What rumors? All I heard is that he had a family emergency.

Yeah what rumours? I heard about the family emergency too, though I haven't heard any chatter about what that actually entails.

She was/is touring with Periphery, and her and Mark had a video on youtube where they taught eachother eachother’s songs that’s now unlisted, and Mark’s brother is apparently still doing photography on the tour currently, which makes it seem like “family emergency” is just a cover up. She also doesn’t follow Mark on social, yet follows every other member of Periphery.

Just a couple odd coincidences hopefully but I really don’t think it’s looking good.

Damn, that would suck if true. Weird position to be hoping that it's *just* an actual family emergency.

Alright so hypothetically if the rumor is true I wouldn't mind if Mark was removed from the band (obviously not the most ideal situation), I always saw Jake and Misha as the core of Periphery and the others kind of in the sidelines here and there, this could also be karma for making every song on PIV lackluster compared to Reptile, FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Damn really? I feel like Mark is just as much of a force/influence as (if not more than) Misha is on their newer stuff (particularly this album and P3).

Feel like if he were to leave the band the stuff they’d put out in the future would sound way different.

Yeah, Mark is clearly the most distinctive and forceful writer of the three. Dude also probably wrote most of Reptile, hence him doing the playthrough. Thinking of him as being "in the sidelines here and there" is just silly.

Also It's Only Smiles is one of thebest songs here and it's definitely a Mark song
