One of my faves of the year. Among all the classics (Genesis, Singularity, Hear Me), Borderlands has really stuck with me. Gives me a great Zappa vibe, which makes sense considering there's two Zappa musicians on the record. Speaking of cheese, Dev sometimes has a similar cheese to Zappa, which is a tasty Parmesan and Provolone blend.

yeah i absolutely couldn't stand this. i think people could talk about the complexities of the influences and nuances forever and i still wouldn't find it less hideous to listen to. i think it's everything i dislike about devin distilled into a record.
his best material imho was when he was in a band and other people had input. the mind of devin is just... well, all over the fucking place and i appreciate that's what many people like about this record but there honestly isn't even a single track from this i like from start to finish because of how it just jumps from idea to idea without much thought to structure. it feels like a "LOOK AT HOW MUCH SHIT WE CAN PUT IN ONE PLACE" sorta record and it just doesn't do it for me, regardless of how well executed it may be.
power to you if you enjoy it i guess, my snide joke on the last page aside. it wasn't intended as an insult. [:

Can't wait to find out how he's going to do this stuff on tour next week. Apparently he's going to use a lot more improvisation and a lot less backing track. I heard somewhere he was getting rid of playing on clicktracks even. How tf are you gonna play this shit without a click is beyond me lol.

Why you'd ever play this in a public setting is beyond me tbh

Yeah, why would a musician play music publicly? Such a mystery.

Saw him yesterday. Was so goddamn great! Setlist was pretty awesome and very diverse.

Saw him the other day too and was surprised how well the Empath songs worked, with Genesis probably being best for me (he played all but Hear Me and Singularity).
I like this new direction of leaving click tracks, vocal overdubs and most of the reverbs and delays at home. Even Deadhead where the wall of effects really fits was much nicer in a dry and tight fashion. Great concert, and Morgan is obviously awesome.

Yeah holy shit Morgan is a beast. He did a couple of things that left my jaw on the floor but I'm pretty sure almost no-one noticed how sick those little details were.

Yah this album is one of my favorites from him for sure and my favorite of the year. Also can’t wait to see this man again. I met him on two separate occasions, him and the lead dude from gorguts are by far the two nicest people I’ve met in the industry. These Canadians, man.

I've met him twice too and totally agree, one of the nicest most humble guys in the game.
