Apparently this is based on some true events about vocal's mother, their relationship and there are lines directly taken from his mother's diary. That sort of brings some extra value and could've (should've) been approached on the review.

I wondered why all the posters said "based on true events." Wasn't sure what the backstory was at all

This is surprisingly good. My main complaint would be a lack of variety in some of the purely heavy songs. I feel like This is Exile did that well. This is better than their last several albums though.

I love this album and I thought it was going to be a 1 in my books. Whitechapel was the first deathcore band I heard at 15.I never was a big fan of them, but this album changes their career trajectory completely for the better.

My first Whitechapel album I've listened to after seeing their name here and there for years. A pleasant surprise ^^

Great review, nearly echoes my feelings on the record. I love the diversity that they present, as it really allows me to sink my teeth into individual elements as opposed to the entire record being a slab of chugging and mids.

hmm really not at all impressed with this after a couple listens. Just seems like a duller version of Mark of the Blade which was already kinda dull.

Is it just me that's getting a lot of "Where Owls Know My Name" vibes from this album? A whole bunch of the better songs on this album sound cribbed from that last Rivers of Nihil album.

I think the vocals on "When a Demon Defies a Witch" are pretty bad, but then when the vocals come in for that quiet section 3/4 of the way through they end up being pretty good. The track sums up the quality of this album pretty well.

Same here, but still divided between 3 and 3.5. I think the next listens will clear that up...

This is pretty awesome. I like the first song a lot. Still sounds like a dumbed down version of RoN so I hope they experiment a bit more next time.

I'm surprised the bonus track on the vinyl version of the album didn't make the final cut, it's a straight up This Is Exile-era song.
