That one was really good, but so far the instrumentation here is just way more affecting

I just wish the vocals were better on LP1

i like how they blend with the instrumentals there. i'm an Owen fan so the new AF ones go down smoothly. shrugged through my sole listen of this though

The more I listen to this the more it feels like an Owen album lol. Still love it though.

I do think the first one’s growing on me. I was very late to the American Football party so just don’t have any personal attachment to it like many others here do

Really enjoyable record. Better than LP2, but not as immediate as LP1. Some tracks drag and it has moments that drag it down, but overall a solid album. I could see this growing with more time.

"Silhouttes" and "Doom in Full Bloom" are among the best songs these guys have ever put out, but the rest of the album just feels like safer, less enjoyable versions of those songs. "Heir Apparent" is the only other track I can come back to without saying that I'd rather to the album's highlights instead.

I prefer the new Chinese Football ep. LP3 is good, but a bit too boring. LP1 is the best emo album of all-time!

i mean, no lol, but would you jam all those achingly beautiful tunes that oh so perfectly paint a scenery for the events of being forced to move on, or would you rather hear a constipated middle-aged mike kinsella cry over a bunch of stuff? most apparently choose the latter

The vocal level mix is a whole lot better on this than LP2 (and I'm a big fan of LP2). AF will always get shit going forward because emo fans generally hate change, and now that Mike is like 40 he can't keep singing about summer ending and whatnot. New AF will of course be closer to Owen with a full band than AF1, and that's okay.
Speaking of summer ending, "Throughout the eight tracks found on this album there is consistent and restrained songwriting and a languid pace that feels more like the beginning of summer than the end." is a beautiful summary that explains what this album is/isn't in context to LP1 though the not-so-subtle Summer Ends reference, that I think is weakened a bit by specifically calling the song out in the very next line. Great review.
