"I, The Radio Friendly Generic Crap", they have reached a point of no return with this shitty record, once my all time favorite, now just a shell of it former self since Siren Charms.

LOL "since Siren Charms". This band has been a shell of its former self arguably since Reroute. But they were at least pretty decent still around the Come Clarity era. Even ASOP had some good songs. Everything since then has been complete shit though.

It's pretty interesting if you compare these guys to Soilwork. Soilwork started to go down the same path In Flames went down with a more "mainstream" style. But they managed to do a u-turn early on and went on to release arguably the best albums of their careers.

Just gave this a listen immediately after listening to The Jester Race. Honestly, there are actually some interesting sections here and there, some decent riffs and decent screams. But it all falls apart pretty much whenever Anders starts with the clean vocals. I literally cringed during parts of Call My Name and Stay With Me.

Like other posters have said, I respect that these dudes have to make a living in a notoriously difficult genre. Good on them for bringing in the cash. But I feel like they could have walked that line between staying somewhat true to their roots and being more mainstream so much better.

You disagreed at first then almost immediately after agreed with my statement lol, they where unrecognizable since Siren Charms, that's exactly what i meant.

And yeah, Soilwork it's a great example on how to go from zero to hero, first couple albums where nice melodeath records but somehow never captivate the scene as much as IF did imo. Then, more than a decade later, they released one of the best metal albums from the last couple of years.

My point is that these guys ranged from great to amazing in their prior albums. During the Reroute to Come Clarity era they were still "decent", but definitely shells of their former selves.

Regardless, what they've become today is so far gone now. I remember being disappointed when A Sense of Purpose came out. If only I knew how much worse it would get.

ASOP it's a great album in my eyes, they where still decent at the very least in that time, plus Jesper still being in the band.

ASOP has its moments, but overall it's just a weaker Come Clarity for me.

I actually liked the EP from the ASOP era way more than the actual LP. Eraser and Abnegation were actually pretty good and I remember being pretty hyped. Then the actual album dropped and it became very apparent where the band was heading :/

"What do you think caused the alcoholism in the first place?"
