@Gyro: Oh it was bad. I'm not that down on Dream Theater most of the time, as they usually still remain listenable, as do 90% of the bands people irrationally slap 1's on, but that was fucking infuriating at points.

people think this is a comeback album? fuck me... how bad was their last one?

If you take Astonishing's good songs, you can make a 7-8 song good album
Dystopian Overture
A Better Life
Savior in the Square
When your Time has Come
Chosen
A Life Left Behind
A New Beginning
Our New World
Holy hell JP, pick more interesting song titles.

It's true Omair, Mangini and Petrucci discussed it themselves

Paralyzed is one of the weaker songs. That riff sounds like a generic Breaking Benjamin or Red riff.

@bloc *deletes track
@Friday yeah I know what you mean, but it could have been worse based on Petrucci's track record of ahrd riffs

i dig that riff....sometimes generic or simple can be devastating when done right

Paralyzed would've been a better song if Red or BB wrote it

Unpopular opinion: I realise I MUCH prefer Mangini's drum sound to Portnoy's later sound. The drums on this sound closer to I&W which I liked and didn't annoy me the way Portnoy's snare usually does, probably because I&W's drums were triggered.
Mangini's playing is also less obtrusive and supports the music better. Which probably makes drum nerds unhappy.
