I wish the last few songs were as good as the first 7. I want to give this a 4 but it just doesn't feel consistent enough near the end.

The second half of the album is even better than the first though. Skywriter, Colorless, and Strange Flower are possibly the top 3 songs.

Strange Flower is a gem (song 9). I think you need to listen again
|

Well i did say that i loved the first 7 songs, skywriter and colorless are part of that.
It's just the last 3 songs (excluding 'it felt so real') that don't have the same quality imo.

To be fair, it felt so real is an interlude. And honestly the last track, Waltz on Water, is seriously great. Just listen to the bass line. It shouldnt be the closer, but still a great song

yeah, it felt so real is one of the best interludes i've ever heard tbh, so much emotion
and waltz on water is beautiful if you pay attention to the lyrics:
A blur of streetlights
Through my tears they're beautiful
I might crash my car
Just to feel something pull my world apart
Of the search for the cure
For apathy, was it her?
But by the time she returned
I was fast asleep

I did my best but I just can't get into this album at all. Should be totally up my alley but for some reason I find it totally monotonous and boring. Sat with it and gave it my full attention and everything.
It gets a 3 from me for being pretty but nothing stands out at all from like 5 listens.

Man, I just cannot relate to that feeling a single bit. Respect for honesty though

large chunks of hte album blend together imo
like others have said, gets overly "atmospheric" to a fault at times

I just don't understand that...each song has a very unique personality. I mean just compare the first two songs, they're nothing alike.

@butt
i dont remember a thing from Suddenly through OYWD

| |
Album Rating: 4.5
I remember Suddenly more than most tracks because it ends with a sweet jazz section with trumpets and saxophones, which doesn't happen at any other point in the album. Night figures has a big synthy chorus, Skywriter is a little forgettable (Sowing will kill me for that one), and Colorless has that beautiful falsetto chorus. Again, my main point being that each song is completely different from the last and they all have different types of highlights that make them standout. I think you just have to pay attention when you're listening and not zone out

I mean I can honestly get people thinking it blends together, because it's not great for casual listening. It's still beautiful to have on in the background, but I have to be fully invested to truly appreciate all of the details. Which I guess could count as a weakness?

^^^[10000] Whether or not it's a weakness is totally a matter of taste, sometimes I'm not feeling it when I'm in track-mood or playlist-curation-mood. But when in album-mood its sublime.
