A little disappointed with the Sabbath cover. I think cover songs are best when bands re-imagine the original track in their own sound and aesthetic rather than trying to mimic that of the original

Even by Weezer standards (the lowest of the low for those who have just joined us) listening to this is a soul crushing experience
Sweet Dreams is a million times worse than...no, not the original, that'd be too kind my sweet innocent...
...oh no...it's a million times worse than...
...the Marilyn Manson version.
You read that right. This is THAT bad.

ew, i had to play the manson version live like a year ago because my guitarist was obsessed with it. LOL

Kicked that fucker out and decided I'm going to go solo shortly after. Still, what a cringeworthy experience, and my family CONSTANTLY reminds me of how "good" I did.

'Faithful' (read: tedious) covers of 'Take On Me' and 'Scrubs' are that much fun? Fair enough

How is the production this bad? One would think that it’s a pretty important part of synth rock

This is almost good if you just want straight note for note replications of classic rock and pop songs done by Weezer for whatever reason. Paranoid is good as a carbon copy though. Probably because it's not Rivers singing and the guitar work does justice to the original.
It's disappointing even more though because classic pop rock songs like Happy Together and Mr. Blue Sky seem like perfect songs for Weezer to cover, but nope they just play their notes and add nothing. And of course Rivers has to continue his bizarre pattern of covering 90s R&B or trying to make songs centered around old hip hop and R&B tropes, sounding like the whitest man to have ever lived every time he does it. Is he trolling us with this shit? Does he genuinely think "Fuck yeah this is AWESOME, this is what the fans want!" when he's covering TLC and Toni Braxton?
And you gotta be out yo damn mind to do note for note carbon copy covers of Billie Jean and Stand By Me thinking you, Rivers Cuomo, can even match 10% of the vocal talent displayed by MJ and Ben E. King on those classics. And that's what makes those songs timeless. You literally took the main, best part of those songs and threw them away to do prom band cover versions of them instead. Gross.
At first I was thinking "this is harmless but not good, 2.5ish", but the way the band and Rivers actively make several of these songs worse while literally just doing exact note for note replications is impressively shitty so no this is actually just shit and the lowest of low efforts.

fuck I always wondered what happy together would sound like if weezer covered it
