I always check new bmsr and tobacco stuff hoping he'll surprise me and make something of dandelion gum quality and I always check aesop's stuff hoping he'll live up to labour days or none shall pass so I'm gonna check this for the same hopeful reasons. Maybe they'll bring something out in each other

I love Labor Days but his voice is definitely more annoying on his old stuff. I never really thought he lived up to his potential until The Impossible Kid. Much less pompous when he turned the lens on himself

I honestly couldnt even finish the impossible kid. It could be worth another shot, I might have been in the wrong mind-space, but he really just hasn't been giving me life the last few years. I thought skelethon was alright at first but got sick of it after like 4 listens

It's much better than None Shall Pass and especially Skelethon imo. That album had too much indie-rap nonsense.

Who knows, maybe you just don't like him. But I'd say The Impossible Kid is worth another shot.

Part of my bias is perhaps that I listened to him a lot when I was an angsty teenager and I think I have negative associations to a lot of artists I listened to in those years that are hard to shake

Impossible Kid shits on Skelethon. The latter borders on annoyingly cringey at times

Gave this another listen and his voice didn't bother me as much. I'm not gonna bother rating this right now though, I kinda wanna check out some of the work by the involved artists leading up to this. It's hard to really appreciate this without any context.

Really good review by the way.

thanks

i don't care much about black moth super rainbow/tobacco, but i think his style of beats works really well with aes's rapping

i'd rather have a regular aesop album, but this is a really fun one-off

That would be a positive for tobacco as well as he really needs a little something extra to reinvigorate his gimmicks, been waiting for that for years

absolutely loving this, i should've listened to Aesop sooner.

that last bit of "acid king" where that little groove starts to kick in then peters out is such a tease.

Yeah Aesop is just alright here. Voice does wear on me a little, but I didn't have that problem with The Impossible Kid at all.
