"Have you all been jamming Extol? I'm not taking to them quite like this yet."
Extol is metal. Solid stuff in the search of the light.

I'm really digging Extol's s/t, probably more than this. The older stuff I'm not quite as enamored of because the clean vocals don't appeal to me the same way.

There are times that she reminds me of the vocalist from Oathbreaker

Maybe I need to listen closer but I do not hear anywhere near all the praise about her harsh vocals. I think they’re easily the weakest part of this.

Most people are saying the same, it’s the weakest part. The album succeeds regardless.

Harsh vocals could use some more development but they aren't bad. My big drawback is still the style of songwriting. It's simply too sporadic and few moments get a chance to be truly fleshed out.

Yep that’s my main problem with this.

Her harshes just have a ragged feel to them that I love. I care more about the feeling a vocalist imparts than how technically accomplished they are. A few people have brought up Fleshkiller, the other post-Extol band that riffs hard, and their vocals are a great counterpoint. The guy clearly knows what he's doing and has a shit-ton of range but I feel absolutely nothing with his vocals. They feel put-on and I don't get the sense that he's saying anything worth actually screaming about.

Sorry my man, the songwriting really blended together. Started finding it really difficult to distinguish one song from another. Band is definitely talented, but the highlights were spaced out too much. Somewhere around 2.5-3.0 territory.

Haha no worries man. I appreciate the honesty.

Finally got to jam to this, and I have to say this is very sweet and unique stuff. It is close to Extol only with more thrash and bigger contrasts between the harsh and the mellow sections. Liked the vocals as well.

@Mars: I find that surprising as the individual tracks are quite distinctive & the way the album flows/is spaced out works exceptionally well. It doesn't strike me as the sort of record one would feel was homogeneous in any way. Fair enough if that IS how you feel though, just a perplexing viewpoint for me personally.

"it really difficult to distinguish one song from another" I can't disagree more. This is the opposite of songs similar to one another. Each track is like a single. But its good that ppl don't see the same things I guess.

Fair enough, but it all just sounded like one long song to me.

Admittedly I've listened to this A LOT idk. Maybe you've spent too long listening to prog bands that shoehorn 1,000 different distinct styles into one 70 minute album Mars (jokes).

Hey Mars. I'm only left hoping that 3 don´t inhibit you from giving it another go.
