I miss some more rawness in the harsh but that's about it.

"The vocals are taking me a bit out of it as of now"

Yeah same, she does that tone deaf stuff at times. Still better than that muppet from TDEP though

I like her clean vox though

Plenty of elements to divide opinions and tastes here, that's easy to hear. For me, the combination happens to hit the spot perfectly.

Also I don't feel the album is front loaded at all, 8 and 9 are among the strongest tracks.

At least we can all agree that, for a debut album, this is one hell of an entrance.

'Still better than that muppet from TDEP though'

haha, good thing you hid that away in a relatively 'quiet' thread. His screams are overrated, the guy can croon though. Dmitri's screams >

Back on topic the harsh vox on here are not the strong point but they get the job done, the cleans are heavenly & the riffs are insane. It does run out of steam a touch towards the end, but I think that's more a case of the opening flurry of tracks being so strong, rather than the album's quality subsiding dramatically.

Agreed the beginning is really strong but I can't forget Spellbinder, Eternal Echo and Succumb to Sorrow are all on 2nd half (not to mention the slow track Programmed to Distress). I think if you love tDEP (not only Calc Inf) you see what they're doing here. Although its harsh and kind of heavy and heavenly riffed it has this pop outfit (such as tDEP). The tracks are memorable as fuck and after a few listens some of the melodies get really stuck in your head. I really love that, but can understand some ppl don't get into it.

Man, there are some really interesting things going on with this album. The vocalist really knows how to weave her way through a line.

Haha fair enough. I'd say it in a TDEP thread but I don't want those 100 page monster threads haunting my feed forever.

I never consider those consequences, hence why Brand New appears on my feed all the damn time.

Yeah you gotta be careful. I am already cursed with Science Fiction but that thread became entertaining after the sexual shit so it's ok. I purposely avoid their other albums though. Converge is another big one. And as much Opeth as possible lol.

I love Converge. The thread not so much.

Converge & Opeth are awesome, no regrets there as I'm a regular in virtually all their threads. I made the mistake with Science Fiction as well, not even heard that one (only Devil & God).

Have you all been jamming Extol? I'm not taking to them quite like this yet.

The cleans on here are pretty damn good, but I'm not a fan of the harsh vox really.

You have a surprisingly high average rating Underflow, was expecting a fair bit lower.

Most of my ratings came from years ago when I was a lot more easily impressed. I can't be bothered to delete all my ratings and start over haha.
