Of course, by pitching it as a new IP, there obviously would have been a handful of changes. I don't mean the exact same film should have been made just with a different name. I just mean that as it is, this being a remake drags down what elements it has that actually make it good. I like this movie. I just don't particularly like it as a "remake". I think it could have tackled a lot of the same stuff it tackles without the baggage of needing to be tangentially related to an older film it barely resembles.

I watched this movie and liked it for its originality. Cover/remake movies, songs, etc should be 80% own original sound and 20% inspiration in my book.

I don't want to see the exact same movie ala Psycho you know.

Altough, and I can admit this was my fault, but the pirated version I watched didn't have any subtitles for the german(?) speaking and I thought that was how the movie was supposed to be and has highly confused lol.

I still don't know what happened at the end, will have to watch again lol . Ngl I like the original more atm because of the colors and kickass ost.

wonder if Luca's still planning on making more films in this universe

would literally sell a left nut for him to adapt the whole Three Mothers trilogy properly instead of doing basically nothing with that dope concept like Argento did (I say this as a fan of Suspiria and Inferno)

literally one of the worst movies I've ever seen straight up lol

seeing as the dude who wrote Susp2018 already made the incredible (and obvious) connection of why a coven of witches would ever be in a dance school in the first place that the original never made, I'd love to see his take on why the Three Mothers are actually different apart from their vaguely different names and that one is in New York for some reason

"you see one is the Mother of Tears and one is the Mother of Sighs, and this means something because someone in a 1970 movie read a book or something" - dario

"shut up and shoot the film dad I want this drug money" - asia probably

how I imagine the filming of MoT largely went

I'd love for Luca to make more in this universe. I really like the original and Inferno, but this remake has a lot more substance and rewatchability for me. Haven't seen Mother of Tears and not planning to haha

yeah for sure. Suspiria is one of those rare cases where I enjoy both versions of it for diametrically opposed reasons (Kubrick vs King's The Shining is the only other example I can think of rn)

Dario's is the ultimate turn your brain off and watch movie, it's hard to overstate the influence of it's production design and cinematography, but once you pay the slightest attention to the plot or acting it collapses in on itself. Luca's is a totally different beast, the more you wander down it's weird discursive paths into allegory and thematic parallels the more rewarding the plot becomes, and the acting is terrific across the board

it was originally titled Suspiria Part One before Luca changed it so they do have more story to tell. gonna be big mad if covid scuppered their plans there

I'm thinking of chucking this, Don't Look Now and The Lighthouse on my regular Halloween rewatch list, just not sure if I can actually handle all three in a row
