No wonder album sounds like b-sides from their previous one. And even that one was average at best

Im a big fan of this band so i was really looking forward to this. Kinda underwhelmed but at least its not the dumpster fire that is Reverence. Seventh circle is a great jam but its placement on the album feels off and random especially when doomsday follows it. Im thinking aside from the opening and closing songs Architects just throw the tracks in randomly eg: AOGHAU deathwish, phantom fear and downfall all back to back makes that thing a slog.

"at least its not the dumpster fire that is Reverence."
I have a friend that says Reverence is the best album ever made.
And he's heard a surprising amount of music too.

"This band hasn’t been anything other than average and run of the mill since hollow crown"
A few pages behind but is this really that much of a hot take? Besides some of the metalcore kiddies, most people on here tend to agree with that.

These guys are full time musicians, aren't they? I mean, they release LPs pretty frequently and tour in between a lot. At least from what I see

@Eclipse: yep :P
Also some new thoughts on the album after a 4th listen here, here's why I don't think it's as good as AOGHAU:
AOGHAU was a tad more unconventional, and especially on tracks like Memento Mori, they had a bit more going on. Death Is Not Defeat has 5 choruses and 3 verses, Hereafter has your typical verse-chorus-verse structure, etc. It's a little underwhelming when shit's getting repeated to this degree, especially for a band as progressive and technical as Architects. AOGHAU averages about 2 choruses, maybe 3 on tracks like "All Love Is Lost" or "Deathwish". On here, it's hard to find ANYTHING with less than 3 repeats of the chorus. This poppy structure works for other bands, but it's a tad difficult to get used to with newer Architects.
Instrumental breaks are more scarce. As great as Sam is, it would have been nice to have a guitar solo or two that isn't overshadowed by the vocals. Death Is Not Defeat is a glaring offender here - I've gotten over that whole "dismantled piece by piece" annoyance that caused a shitstorm, but there are next to no moments where Sam stops singing or screaming to let the instruments shine, no breaks in between verse and chorus, etc.

I agree with most of your points Deathbat,
Sam's vocals are definitely in the forefront throughout the whole record, Lost Together had more variation than this album imo

Honestly this is the most conventional they've been since TH&N so I'm surprised it's being praised this much.

I've seen a lot of people say that Architects are single handedly saving metal and that is insulting to The Ocean... and of course many other great bands
|
| |
I haven't even listened to this bullshit and I know TH&N is 100x better than this. They haven't released new material in five years.

"single-handedly saving metal"
laughs in Rolo Tomassi and The Ocean

Excuse me sirs, I apologize. I said five years, but checking the album releases it seems that I meant six years.
