Yup, did a part I + part II run this morning (hearing II for the first time). It's difficult to have a real opinion on yet. It's a bit all over the place and certainly not as 'predictable' as part I (as in, the flow is really different). Don't want to go into too much detail but rest assured there's more than enough to enjoy here.

You've been missing out on The Ocean bud? You've picked the right time to get on the hype train. Start with Palegeal and then on friday you can do Phanerozoic I + II in one go! Would give my right nut to be able to hear them in one sitting both for the first time lol.

I told Pangea to listen to them a while ago... it only made sense considering his name

The ending of Pleistocene on the new one is sooooo good.

yeah Phan II has super weird pacing. all the action is in the second and third songs, then you get some short chill ones, one more banger, and it ends on a ballad thing. doesn't work for me as well as Phan 1.

For Phan I (and for Phan II as expected) it's only half the experience just listening to the albums imo, learning about the individual periods/epochs (basically the lore of the albums) adds a great deal to the experience, this band is very educational in that way, an underrated aspect to the band that should not be underrated

I'm coming from the other direction -- I wanted to be a paleontologist as a kid so I'm mapping the songs onto things I already know about, and it is also quite fun.

Endless rewatching of the walking with series had me well set up for these albums : D

Plus some strange anatomy and modelling even for what they knew at the time.

Great shows though, I don't know of anything that has done pre-historic stuff quite as good as them.
