I know man, just went back to it and gosh the cleans are simply unbearable. I adore EWS so the 4.5 was my early hype for new Silent Planet but man, disappointment of the decade this is.

Honestly don't mind the cleans at all. But then again I like Anders Friden and have a somewhat high tolerance for whiny. Surprisingly I find Aaron Gillespie more annoying on cleans when consumed in large doses.

I love clean vocals when they're used tastefully like on EWS and maybe if the production wasn't so tinny, thin, and plastic it'd be easier to stomach. But even so, the band lost more than the quality of the cleans on here. The dynamics, the ingenious lyrics, the atmosphere, the list goes on.

@Luc: fair. Was honestly a little disappointed with how hard the lyrics here were to follow but it still slapped.

I guess so? I just hear real generic, cookie cutter metalcore save for Garett's spoken-word esque melodies. There's nothing here that really separates it from, say, the new Fit for a King record.

just because you think it's generic doesn't mean it doesn't/does fit a specific genre
