Is there an alternate cut of Ocean Song that’s exactly the same except the outro goes for 20 minutes?

Yes, it’s called the live version at The Pit on YouTube :-)
And regarding Fantano, I’m glad he helped it get the attention it deserves but many of us over here were geeking out over it before he ever reviewed it. Myself included

No none of you knew this band before Fantano
|
| |
I didn’t know about music before Fantano, real eye opener that one’s been
|

the s/t was a somewhat big deal iirc
anyway idk I liked this a bit but I’m kinda biased towards bands that contort 80s noise and/or post punk in certain ways. but generally Jeff is probably actually correct

I think if people claim to love an album they’ve probably at least heard of the album otherwise they wouldn’t know the album’s name and thus wouldn’t be able to claim they love it

I mean, you don’t have to have a complete grasp on a discography to be a fan of an artist. If you’ve only ever heard The Money Store and nothing else, you can still say you enjoy the Death Grips
And sure it brought a fair bit of exposure but I’m inclined to believe most people that say they like something genuinely like it. And even if not, what’s the benefit of second guessing it?

I agree with Bigglestein on this one. Fantano's got a pretty wide range of influence - I watch him from time to time as well. He's the reason I found Daughters to begin with, among other groups. I personally don't find this to be that great of an album but that could even be due to me having high expectations as I went through their discography bc of the lavish praise in his review. (Third album is the best btw).
I can attest to the Fantano effect, having at one point believed that his 10's must've been good albums bc he said so, like Money Store and Kids See Ghosts. I actually listened to them both and found the former to be hot shit and the latter pretty good.

I don't frequent those communities but I would not be surprised at all to see opinions 180 bc of a Fantano review.
The only Reddit music community I ever even bother with is r/progmetal. 90% of the users and the mods there are so open-minded and modest. Every other I've come across is just filled with circlejerks and Fantano parrots.

I hear you, I just prefer to trust that the bloke in the T-shirt digs on the band. And no doubt the Fantano Vacillating you’re talking about happens, just don’t see much benefit in looking out for examples, ignorance is bliss, and people are more down to have conversations if their tastes get taken at face value, and ain’t that why we’re here, at the end of the day?
Then we get about organically to discussing the one with the dong on the cover, and what nobler cause is there?

so, this thread changed into a Fantano hate monologue until it totally went to shit. how surprising. But while we're at it: I've found these guys when they released "The Reason They Hate Me" and Revolver or Metalhammer posted something about it on facebook. They compared to something that really intrigued me
