I'm pretty far behind on Coheed & Cambria. Time to catch up.

Enjoyable album, but then again I've never really heard anything more than a 3.5 from these guys

i find this album rather boring, especially after the previous one that felt like a grasp of air - no ridiculous concept, no super boring proggy stuff and so on

You're probably in the extreme minority here.

ehhh 3.8 is respectable but a lot of people are going to find prog boring regardless of what it is

Well there's hardly any prog on this album compared to the band's early work so Eldar should feel at home here.

It's mostly '80s arena pop rock to me. The prog stuff from their first 3 albums is almost completely gone here. It's all verse - chorus - verse - chorus - bridge - chorus - song over instead of going off into a bunch of crazy and diverse sections after the second chorus of the songs.

The bridges on this make it for me, all the songs' hooks are developed and restructured so tightly - the prog has always been fun, but imo Coheed's greatest strength is their catchiness and they know how to work it here
