This is quite fantastic even if it does sound like a part 2 of The Satanist.

The surprise acoustic work definitely adds a vibrant touch.

Better than the Stanist and 2nd best Behemoth overall.

Saying that, Stanist grew off me over time.

The production on The Satanist is fantastic, definitely lets the nuances shine.

Anyone arguing this has no post punk needs to listen to If Crucifixion... again

my overall point that i probably didn't explain very well is that i really hate 'cringe' culture, where anything that even vaguely sticks out is immediately derided. usually when bands record an album, i think they expect to be taken seriously, and so i try to do that.

that being said, i do understand why people may not like the choir

Agreed. If any musician can pull this off credibly, it's Nergal. Dude has been through some shit.

It's also pretty clear he's a well read guy through some of the language and references he uses.

If Crucifixion is just not as explosive and gurgantuan as the rest of the record. You could make the same argument that it has grunge influences, or hard rock, or thrash metal.

Nah man. The opening drum beat is pure punk and the jangly apperggios played over it is that post punk worship

It's at its most obvious there but sprinkled elsewhere as well

still doubt that it is specifically a post-punk influence. punk in general, perhaps.

I mean, Nergal openly stated that the album had post-punk and gothic rock influence, so...

I haven't seen the interview myself but a friend was telling me about Nergal bringing being really into bands like Killing Joke so I wouldn't be surprised if it's intentional but I'd have to actually find that interview

he also cited Fields of the Nephilim as an influence on it, and I hear that all over this.
