Bit of both.
He had vocal nodules or polyps at the time (likely formed into blood blisters), so it was causing him pain every time he sang. It was especially apparent here, he looked pale and he sounded/looked like he was in a great deal of pain. He shouldn't have been singing, period. That whole tour cycle is one reason why he voice deteriorated over time.

exactly why I swerved them at the time. my fandom for them peaked during their arche tour, so I gave in to going down to see em. but if I was given the opinion on both tours now, Id pick the dss tour, just because I freaking love that record. lol

Yeah it's their best for me but I can only jam it when I'm in the mood.
Arche is the one I can throw on anytime, so immediate.

I saw them during the '13 tour cycle too, was at a festival and they only played 4 songs due to tech issues :/
Still amazing, Kyo was the best I've heard him.

The first half of 13 was his best period as a singer so ye you got lucky in a way.
