I thought this was one of their best after my first 5 or so spins but it grew off me hard after that. I couldn’t care less if this is their hardest album since Iowa. The songwriting just isn’t close to being on par with Iowa.

This discussion has got me thinking and you know, this may in fact be my least fav Slipknot album for the sheer fact that I’m tempted to skip way more of the tracks here than on AHIG. But I think this also has a few more tracks? Also think the highs on AHIG are higher than the highs here.

Slipknot followed a similar path to Metallica. "All Hope Is Gone" is their "Black Album." "Iowa" is their "Master of Puppets." "The Gray Chapter" is sort-of like their "Load" and "Reload." I agree "Gray Chapter" is an okay album. It's far from their best work; however, it does seem like there is a newfound passion within. Slipknot simply misfired their energy and focused on melodrama.
